Hope That Doesn’t Disappoint
“And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
Romans 5:5 (ESV)
There are days when life just feels heavy. The kind of days when we wonder if things will ever turn around, or if God has maybe forgotten our address. But then we come across a verse like this one—and it’s like a gentle reminder straight from heaven: “Hope will not disappoint you.”
Why? Because God’s love isn’t something we’re waiting to receive—it’s already actively working inside of us. The Holy Spirit keeps it alive and active, even when we can’t feel it. In those quiet, aching moments, when we hit our lowest points, the Spirit whispers, “Don’t give up. God is still good. Keep looking for Him.”
It’s hard to do that when everything seems to be falling apart. But what if, instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” we started asking, “Lord, what good thing are You working through this?” That slight shift changes everything. We begin to see our troubles as a path to perseverance and hope. Suddenly, the pain becomes a classroom, not a punishment. The trial becomes a teacher, not a thief.
So next time life presses hard, and we are tempted to plead with God to remove the trial immediately, let’s ask Him to help see what He’s doing in it. His love hasn’t gone anywhere—it’s been poured into us. And that means our hope is safe, even here, even now.
This week, when something difficult comes up, pause and ask, “God, what good are You bringing out of this?” Write down even one small way you see His love working. Let that be your reminder that hope never disappoints.
