Filled Not Empty
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Romans 15:13
Let’s be real—peace can feel hard to come by, and joy can feel even harder to hold onto. Life moves fast, pressure is constant, and it’s easy to believe in God without actually trusting Him in the middle of everything.
Romans 15:13 reminds us that peace comes from believing and that joy grows when we choose to trust. These aren’t emotions we have to force or fake. They’re gifts God gives as we lean into Him. The Holy Spirit does the filling—we just make space.
Following Jesus isn’t just about having your sins forgiven (as amazing as that is). It’s about being changed from the inside out. Christ doesn’t just clean the slate—He fills the empty places. Where guilt, fear, or restlessness once lived, He brings peace, purpose, and hope.
When Jesus reigns in our hearts, freedom starts to replace old patterns. That doesn’t mean instant perfection, but it does mean real transformation. The gospel isn’t incomplete or shallow—it’s full, powerful, and meant to show up in everyday life. Over time, Christ’s love, patience, and peace begin to shape who we are, and people notice.
A life filled with Christ has a different kind of glow—not flashy, not loud, but steady and real. It quietly points back to the Savior who changed everything.
Where do you notice the difference between believing in God and actually trusting Him? What are some “empty spaces” you’re tempted to fill with things other than God? How have you seen God bring peace or joy in unexpected ways?
This week, let’s slow down enough to trust God on purpose. When stress shows up, pause and pray instead of pushing through. When anxiety hits, hand it to God—again and again. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill what feels empty with peace, joy, and hope. Let your life reflect Christ, not by trying harder, but by trusting deeper.
