Personal Stories of God’s Work Can Soften Hearts
And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ If then God gave the same gift to them as he gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God’s way?” When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.”
Acts 11:16
Peter found himself in a difficult spot—criticized by his own community for crossing cultural and religious lines. Instead of arguing or defending himself with theology, he told the story of what God showed him and what happened. He let the truth speak for itself. He recounted how God gave him a vision, how the Holy Spirit moved, and how lives were changed. That’s all he did, and his personal testimony silenced objections and shifted hearts from criticism to praise.
There’s something profound here for us: truth doesn’t always need a defense; sometimes it just needs a voice. Peter didn’t convince people through logic—he connected them to the reality of God’s grace at work. His story opened their eyes to what they had previously been unwilling to see: that God’s mercy knows no boundaries.
You may not have a dramatic vision like Peter, but you do have a story. Every time God has brought you through pain, shown you mercy, or changed you from the inside out, He gave you something powerful: a testimony. In a world full of debate and division, your honest story of transformation can cut through noise and touch hearts. Not everyone will agree with doctrine or theology, but everyone understands struggle. Everyone longs for hope.
When you share your story of how God met, helped, or healed you, you create space for others to wonder if He might do the same for them. Testimonies make things real because they show what God’s love and grace look like in everyday life. You become a living example that repentance that leads to life is still being offered. God does His work through us—even in small ways that don’t always feel dramatic.
This week, let’s look for opportunities to share your testimony of God’s love and grace to others, so that they may yield to the conviction of the Holy Spirit and experience the same joy that God gave you.
