Separated from the beginning

You shall be holy to me, for I the Lord am holy and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be mine.

Leviticus 20:26

From the beginning of time, God has been in the business of separating things. In Genesis 1:3-10 we see God separating all kinds of things. He began by separating light from darkness, mountains from the seas, heaven from earth, one expanse from the other, and chaos from order. This is the God we serve: the God of intentionality, the God of purpose, and the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

In humanity, we see thoughtful and deliberate purpose in that act of creation. We see him catering to our needs, wants, and desires, and he makes sure to separate us from evil for his will and purpose. This is the kind of love we don’t hear enough about from the media, social media, politicians, or radio. We don’t hear enough about these good, wholesome things because, in our society today, it does not create clicks, likes, and views. Instead, they create disorder and confusion to generate clicks and views for profit. The Bible says to not become a lover of money and it warns of this. There is nothing wrong with having nice things, but God wants your heart. There are plenty of rich Christians who actually worship God as the source. They understand where their bread is buttered.

Our enemy, Satan, prowls around like a roaring lion on a mission, looking to destroy any hope, joy, or optimism you may have. Make no mistake, you are in a spiritual battle whether you choose to accept it or not. God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only son, for whoever chooses to believe in Him will have an everlasting life. That is another one of our amazing creator’s gifts for eternity. The kind that we get to choose, the kind that thought of us before the beginning of time, the one who died for me so that we can truly live in that absolute freedom. Our only natural response is to live a life that honors and glorifies him.

This week, let us choose life, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control. These are from above, not what we see in our world.
