As a believer, you are not alone

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of My hand.”

John 10:27-28 (ESV)

How many of us have felt the sting of abandonment? Maybe you had a friend leave you or betray you. Maybe you have been through a divorce or are a child of divorced parents. Whatever the case, abandonment leaves its mark. To be devastated by someone you trust and love leads to scars. It feels like getting stabbed right in the heart. The pain doesn’t simply end. It lasts a lifetime and, if it affects a family, multiple lifetimes. Many times we approach God the same way. We are timid to put our faith in anyone or anything, let alone someone we can’t see. This can be difficult for many people.

I would like to share something with you: as a believer, you are not alone. Nothing, and I mean nothing, can separate you from God or His perfect love. Not sin, not your family, not friends, not mistakes, and not even death can separate you from God. God is there even when no one else is. Now, I don’t mean that God is present in the sense of feeling bad, but He is always with you. The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit dwells within us when we are saved. We literally have God living within us. So when I say that God is always with you, you can take that to the bank. When you feel alone, you are not. When you feel separated from everything you love, there is a love that will never be separated from you.

Practically, we still feel separated from God at times. When those times come, stay faithful. God will always give you the strength to get through anything that life throws at you. All you have to do is ask. God is always faithful. Read your Bible for encouragement from His word, pray to him so that He will give you strength. Be with other believers and ask them for prayer and encouragement. He has given you the avenues to find strength. Best of all, He gave you His Spirit.

So when you feel alone or abandoned, remember that God is with you. Seek His face and He will make himself known and give you strength and comfort.
