He is Risen
“But the angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, as He said. Come, see the place where He lay.”
Matthew 28:5-6 (ESV)
The resurrection of Jesus is by far the most powerful story of all time. It symbolizes the fact that the God we serve has the power to overcome death. Knowing that we worship a risen savior gives our life true meaning and purpose. When Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of Jesus, came to visit the empty tomb, they were shocked. Fortunately, they were greeted by angels, who gave them the good news.
First off, they told the women to not be afraid. Fear has a way of dictating our life and the choices we make. The fact that Jesus is alive gives us the power to overcome that fear, so we can go on living in the peace of God. The angels also pointed out that Jesus did as He said. This lets us know that God always fulfills His promises. He never lies to us. That kind of trust is stronger than any we can find on this earth. Jesus fulfilling the promise of coming back from the dead is a sign that there is nothing out of His control.
In John 20:21, Jesus appears to His disciples and tells them, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” Jesus showed us the perfect example of how we should experience our relationship with God. Just as God sent His Son to save us from our sins, He has also sent us to share the gospel and the good news that Jesus is alive and He has the power to save us from death.
This week, let the resurrection of Jesus Christ give you the motivation to tell others about His love. Let the same power that defeated death help guide you to share the gospel with those around you.
