Being satisfied with God

Psalm 17:15

“As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.”

We live in a world where people get bored very easily. Our attention spans are declining and brand new technology makes past inventions seem irrelevant. It’s hard to find something enjoyable long-term. With God, we can experience everlasting joy and satisfaction.

All the distractions the world offers us make us miss everyday blessings and things that should satisfy our needs. We have to be aware when we receive blessings from God. The faithful are satisfied with God, because they realize what He offers. The wicked ignore God’s blessings and instead receive punishment. Our satisfaction should come from God and not from things of this world.

We have to find satisfaction in what God has to offer, rather than what the world offers. Sometimes we hear the phrase, “That was so last year.” Things go out of style. Games get boring the longer you play them. Even smart phones get updated every year, making the one you bought last year obsolete to the popular crowd.

Sometimes we look for happiness in what other people have, making us think that we’ll be happy, too. We must find happiness in God’s love and blessings. Our joy should be in eternal pleasures rather than temporary ones. Paul says in Philippians 4:12, “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” We’re not settling for less, because God is more than we could ever want.

This week, pray about how you can receive satisfaction from God’s blessings. Be content with what you have, knowing that it came from God. Reflect on what He has done for you this week and seek Him in all your ways.
