Comfort through difficult times
Amos 4:13 (ESV)
He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals His thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth—the Lord God Almighty is his name.
We are experiencing a new type of normal as we are confined to our homes, practicing social distancing and limited physical interaction. With the chaos and uncertainty around us it is hard to find peace. All of us have taken the time to experience God’s creation firsthand.
Walt Disney describes the nature around us as “Landscapes of great wonder and beauty lie under our feet and all around us. They are discovered in tunnels in the ground, the heart of flowers, the hollows of trees, fresh-water ponds, seaweed jungles between tides, and even drops of water. Life in these hidden worlds is more startling in reality than anything we can imagine. How could this earth of ours, which is only a speck in the heavens, have so much variety of life, so many curious and exciting creatures?”
When reading God’s word, we learn just how mighty and powerful our Lord is. In the Amos passage mentioned above, it says we have a mighty God who not only created all things, but reveals His thoughts to us through His words in the Bible.
The Lord God is sovereign. He has perfect knowledge and perfect power with which He controls everything. During these out of control times, it is comforting to know God the creator is in control. Isaiah 41:10 tells us, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Jeremiah 31:25 says, “I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.”
This week, take a moment and dive into God’s word. Read about His greatness to remind yourself He is in control. Enjoy the beauty of spring and renewal of life that comes with it. Consider helping a neighbor through an act of kindness. Then take some time to read Philippians 4:4-13.
