Making the Lord a part of your life

Psalm 127:1 (ESV)

“Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.”

No task has eternal worth apart from God’s will. That’s the short, sweet and to the point version of this verse. Without God’s help, things will not go well. So, are laboring for our own glory to seek pride? Or are we laboring for the glory of God?

God is beyond all wisdom and power that we can fathom. With His guidance, He is sure to make things right in our situations. Whether it’s a relationship, a job or starting a family, God should be a part of everything. If we leave Him out in our decision-making, it will prove to be foolish for us.

With this verse specifically, it’s talking about building a house. People desiring to build something must labor. We have to work for it to earn it. Even if they put forth all of their strength and skill, it’s going to not end well unless God is with them. We are simply people toiling in vain until the day we die. Without God, we are nothing. What kind of life is that?

A life with God included in our everyday routine is a good one. Just because God is with us every step of the way doesn’t mean that everything is going to go according to plan. Your car might break down. Your friend might betray you. You might lose your job. Christians who devote their whole life to God still go through these types of struggles. The difference is that having God in our lives brings more peace and comfort when the trials and tribulations come forward.

Having Jesus as our Lord and Savior brings joy and peace. We may not realize it because of the distractions of the world and the sin which corrupts us. However, if we focus on the goodness of God and all that He can provide for us, taking on the struggles won’t always be easy, but God will work them out for our good. Much can be done by ourselves, but without God, we truly accomplish nothing. He wards off the evil and keeps us safe in His loving arms. If your perspective is right, all things work for the glory of God. We must trust this concept in order to truly understand this passage of Scripture.

This week, pray about how you can involve God more in your own personal life. Let Him assist you in your day-to-day routine and see what kind of changes He can bring.
