Born of the Spirit
The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.
John 3:8 (ESV)
Abraham Lincoln once said, “To believe in the things you can see and touch is no belief at all – but to believe in the unseen is a triumph and a blessing.” This is in sharp contrast to what most people believe in these days.
We live in an age that demands reality and many people reject just about anything they cannot see with their eyes or touch with their hands. Let’s consider the wind. With the power of wind, we see how it can fill the sail of a boat and moves it through the waters, how a kite can fly high in the sky or how it moves tree limbs back and forth. We can feel the wind blowing across our bodies in the cold of winter and in the warmth of summer.
We cannot see where the wind comes from or where it is going yet we still believe it exists. We see the result of wind and its impact is very real as we can see. The Holy Spirit has also been described as being like the wind in the Holy Scriptures.
The Holy Spirit is invisible, supernatural, and has great power yet, cannot be seen or touched. But, there are the obvious signs that a person has the Holy Spirit in them. It starts with the way that they live their life, changes their outlook on things to the good, the way they care for others, and in general wanting to be like Jesus in mind, body, and spirit.
The Holy Spirit is a gift from God the Father and God the Son to help us in this life through anything we come against. This gift gives us the ability to communicate directly with God with any request or conversation we may want to have with Him. If you have never asked the Holy Spirit to come into your heart, mind, and body, why not do it right now? With your invitation, the Holy Spirit will come and live in you and you in Him.
This week, may God’s Holy Spirit give you peace. Pray about how you can receive that Holy Spirit in your own life.
