Jesus is The resurrection and The Life

“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
John 11:25-26

This is one of the great seven “I am” statements Jesus made about himself as recorded in John’s gospel account. This statement was spoken to Martha, one of the sisters of Lazarus, just prior to Jesus demonstrating this truth by raising Lazarus from the dead.

Jesus not only raised himself from the dead, but has the power to raise every person who has ever lived as well. The day will come when Jesus will raise each and every one of us, some to everlasting life, and some to contempt.

The resurrection is a promise from Jesus. There will be a resurrection. The question is, which resurrection will you be in? Will you be raised to eternal life? Or will you suffer the second death, eternal separation from God? Those who have placed their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will be raised to everlasting life.

This is part of the great hope for those who are in Christ.  Longing for His return, and “a peace that passes all understanding” concerning death is the assurance of all believers.  This is what separates Christianity from religion. Christianity is a relationship to God through Jesus Christ.

Because of His virgin birth, sinless life, atoning death on the cross, burial, and resurrection, all who believe in Jesus will be raised to life. Physical death is not the end, but a spiritual death is for all eternity.  Those who trust in Christ are guaranteed a resurrection to everlasting life. You have God’s word on that.

This week, if you have not given your heart to God by trusting in Jesus, do so now, and receive the joy of knowing that death in this life is the beginning of eternal life with God in heaven.
