National Day of Prayer 2026 to be Held on May 7th in Wake Forest
Wake Forest, NC – The 2026 National Day of Prayer (NDP) will take place on Thursday, May 7th, and the Town of Wake Forest, along with local churches and the wider community, are joining together in a day of reflection, prayer, and unity.
Held annually on the first Thursday of May, the National Day of Prayer is a tradition that brings citizens together from all walks of life to lift up their communities, the nation, and the world in prayer. This year’s event will continue the tradition of fostering spiritual growth, collaboration, and healing amid both local and national challenges.
“We are excited to partner with the Town of Wake Forest and local churches to host this year’s National Day of Prayer,” said Rev. Bob Gallagher, one of the event’s organizers. “This event offers an opportunity for people to come together in unity to pray for our leaders, our families, and our nation. We believe that prayer can bring healing and hope during difficult times.”
Rev. Ken Steigler, co-organizer of the event, added, “This year’s gathering is especially significant as it brings our community together at a moment when prayer and unity are needed more than ever. We are honored to help facilitate this important day of prayer and reflection.”
The National Day of Prayer was established in 1952 by a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress and has been observed annually ever since. It encourages individuals to pray for the spiritual and moral well-being of the nation, its leaders, and its citizens. The event often includes public gatherings, services, and other prayer-focused activities.
In Wake Forest, the event will be held at 12:00 Noon at the Town Hall Flagpole, where members of the community will gather in prayer. Local churches, community groups, and residents are all encouraged to participate.
“We are especially grateful for the support of Wake Forest Town Commissioner Faith Cross and other town leaders,” said Rev. Gallagher. “Their commitment to this event and to fostering a spirit of unity is truly appreciated, and we are thankful for their involvement in making this year’s NDP possible.”
The event will include a community prayer service, and all are invited to come together to lift up the nation, its leaders, and the global community in prayer. Organizers also encourage individuals to join in prayer at home or with small groups if they are unable to attend the public gathering.
“We invite everyone to take part in this year’s National Day of Prayer, whether through individual reflection or by joining us at the Town Hall Flagpole,” said Rev. Steigler. “This day is an opportunity to come together as a community and draw strength from our shared faith.”
The NDP serves as an important reminder of the role of prayer in building community, strengthening relationships, and fostering a spirit of unity across the nation.
