The Lord holds our hand

The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

Psalm 37:23-24

There is nothing like walking on a beach along the coast and feeling the soft sand under your feet. You don’t need shoes when you walk on the wet sand as it is cooling on your feet. However, some beaches have rocks and hard shells where you will need shoes. If you are not careful, you can easily stumble and fall, with only the rocks to cushion your fall.

When we stumble and fall, we anticipate some discomfort and pain when walking on a rocky beach. In the same way, we expect discomfort in certain events that happen in our life, like medical tests, performance reviews, difficult conversations, etc. We tend to get ourselves stressed, worried, and nervous about upcoming conversations and situations, just knowing they are going to be awful.

As believers, we will eventually stumble, lose our way, struggle, and trip on our journey sooner or later. The Lord establishes our steps and is pleased to provide for us. When we stumble, we will not be destroyed. It is important to remember as a believer God has ordained the steps we take, and every detail is under God’s control.

Even if you don’t understand what is going on, there is a point when you must take off your shoes and walk with him. Whether it is smooth or rough walking, you will get through it by the grace of God. Let him hold your hand every step of the way so you won’t stumble and fall.

When we delight in Him, our steps are made easy, like walking on wet sand. Even when the waves of the ocean crash into us, such as conflicts or temptations, we know the Lord is holding our hand and keeping us upright. As long as we believe in Him and accept Him as our Lord and Savior, there is no path that’s too tough for us to walk.

This week, pray about how you can take a hold of the Lord’s hands. See what you can do in your own life that can please Him and bring honor to His name.
