A Christian’s Spiritual Gift
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit;
1 Corinthians 12:4
There are many types of gifts. Some are given on special occasions, some are called natural talents, and some are spiritual. Some people have a talent (or gift) for playing golf, or the piano, or the guitar, or many other activities, and some don’t. Trying to do something that you are not gifted for can be frustrating.
The same can be said for spiritual gifts. Paul stated that there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives gifts to Christians as He wills. Every Christian has at least one spiritual gift; some have more than one.
But the gift that you have was given to you at the Holy Spirit’s discretion. You cannot choose the gift you want. A Christian who decides to exercise a gift not given by the Holy Spirit will be frustrated.
If you are a Christian, you have at least one spiritual gift. Your obligation is to discover the gift that the Holy Spirit has given you. When you realize your God given gift, you will find joy in exercising that gift, just as a talented musician or athlete finds joy in exercising their gift.
May you discover your gift and find enjoyment in exercising those gifts for the benefit of the church, your personal growth in Christ, and the glory of God. If you are not a Christian, trust Christ as your Lord and Savior today. After salvation, you will receive one or more spiritual gifts. Then you, too, may discover the joys of a new life, the joy of God’s gifts, and the joy of bringing glory to God.
This week, spend time in prayer asking God to reveal your spiritual gift and to bless you as you exercise it.
