Create a clean heart

Psalm 51:10-11 (ESV)

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.”

Forgiveness is a heavy topic, because it is one of the most difficult things to do. When we look at God’s perspective, He is able to forgive all of our sins, even though He knows everything we have ever done. Only He has the power to forgive sins and make us a new person in Him.

In this passage, renewing one’s heart and spirit represents forgiveness. It also refers to a change that enables a person to live in obedience to God’s commands. We can’t be good on our own. It takes the power of God to make us blameless in His sight. Only He can right the ship in our lives. It is not by our own doing, because we always tend to falter and stray from the Lord. However, Jesus has the power to create a clean heart within us and He did so by washing away our sins with His blood on the cross.

The Holy Spirit is the presence of God in our lives and serves as our guide through this sinful world. It’s like holding someone’s hand as they carry us through darkness. If we let go of that hand, we are sure to get lost and not find our way. We want to hold onto God as much as we can, because only He can help navigate our way through the darkness and into marvelous light. It’s comforting to know that we can’t lose our salvation because God never releases His hold on us.

If you want God to create a clean heart and renew your steadfast spirit, you have to let Him. Allow the love of Jesus to overwhelm you with grace, so that you can feel refreshed and pure. It is only through the power of God that we can have that clean heart, since sin is so prevalent in the world. Jesus can take away that sin in our lives through the power of forgiveness.

This week, pray about how you can let God create a clean heart within you. Let His Holy Spirit dwell among you, so you can walk the narrow path Christ has set for you.
