1 John 4:7-8 (ESV)

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

Everyone who cares about living in peace with their fellow man is looking for a solution to the present strife, division and unrest. Hoping to find the answer, many are looking to a political party, a congressional representative, an influential leader, or powerful figures within an organization. The answers for the problems of today are no different than the problems that people faced throughout all of history.

Just like in the past, the solution is never found in mankind or what is produced through the mind no matter how well intended. The answer cannot be found within ourselves because we are all born with the same selfish condition. Therefore, we need to look for the change we desire in the one who is completely selfless, perfect in love, and without any sin.

Jesus, God’s Son is the only one who can produce the change we so desperately need. It was because of God’s love that He sent His Son to pay the penalty that we all deserve. God offers forgiveness and restoration for all who believe and personally receive Jesus as the only way. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

The answer for all our turmoil has always been found in God’s love. When we put our faith in Jesus, we become God’s child. As His child, we are given continual access to Him in an intimate, personal relationship through the work of the Holy Spirit. That same Spirit transforms our heart and begins the process of making us more like God’s Son. The more like Jesus we become, the more love we will have for others. The more love we have for others, the less division and fighting there will be.

This week, instead of focusing on the news, spend time in God’s Word to find the answers. Only the transforming power of God’s work in the heart of man can bring peace. If you have God’s love within, share that love with others.
