We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (ESV)

The year 2020 was challenging to say the least. It was easy to get overwhelmed by all the things we have seen last year. Families were growing fatigued from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, we hear about natural disasters all over the world that destroyed the land. Not to mention we’ve also seen a political season like no other.

We haven’t even talked about own personal challenges through all of this. Staying positive is so hard when life gets you down. However, Christ shows us through scripture how we are to tackle each day.

No matter what year it is or what’s going on in the world, we have to remember that God wants us to be patient and love one another. His word teaches us to be kind to one another. One way we can do that is send out encouraging words to each other.

We need to protect our thoughts every day and look toward God to understand. We can have peace through Him by encouraging others and finding positive things to tell them to help them have a better week. Praying for one another is another thing we can do for each other.

We read in 2 Corinthians 10:5 that we should take those thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ. It is a very difficult task, but it is not impossible. It takes discipline.   

Our walk with Christ in this world is not easy. There are so many distractions, obstacles and heartache that can discourage us. What about all the good things and the growth we have experienced? Doesn’t that matter?

Remember in Matthew 17:1-8 when Peter, James and John went with Jesus to the mountain top? They were so amazed at the transfiguration that they did not want to leave. Can you remember a time you felt closest to Christ that you wanted to reach out and touch Him?

Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things.” That will help us stay on the mountain top a little longer. To follow God, the Bible says we must seek Him, love Him and love others.

This week, tell somebody about the love of Jesus Christ. If you are uncomfortable with that, just say something positive about them to encourage them throughout the day.
