Both God and sin
“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”
Colossians 3:2 (ESV)
It’s a command that sounds simple, but is really tough to act out. Because of things like the internet, social media, adult-themed T.V. shows and movies, it’s hard to set our minds to be more like Christ’s. For this command, it requires a lot of prayer and meditation to filter out and release all of the unrighteous thoughts from your head and to clear space and make room for God’s way of thinking. Prayer is definitely something everyone can improve on and it could help our way of thinking.
In this passage, Paul tells the church of Colossae they are free from the ceremonial law, so they must walk the more closely with God in gospel obedience. As heaven and earth are contrary one to the other, both cannot be followed together. Affection to the one will weaken and abate affection to the other. Your heart and loyalty can’t be with both God and sin. Those that are born again are dead to sin, because its dominion is broken. Its power is gradually subdued by the operation of grace, and it shall at length be extinguished by the perfection of glory when we enter the kingdom of heaven.
This week, pray about getting in the right mindset. Meditate on positive, righteous and godly thoughts so that the negative and ungodly thoughts will be overwhelmed and it will give you a peace of mind.
