God is my Strength
Psalm 18:2
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
We see strength everywhere in today’s world. There’s the strongest man competition and other sports that show off the human strength. In comic books and movies, we see men and women with supernatural strength. However, there is nothing that compares to the strength of God.
The context of this verse is that David is escaping from King Saul, who seeks to kill him out of jealousy. Being on the run for your life can be very stressful, but David put his faith in God, because He knows how strong and powerful He is. He has put his trust in God’s security. David was young and strong, but there was no way he could take on an army sent by the king.
God created the universe and everything in it. No matter how strong you are, there’s no possible way you can measure up to that. So when we fight our spiritual battles, we shouldn’t rely on our own strength. While some of us might be pretty strong to mankind’s standards, none of us are strong enough to fight off sin on our own. That’s where God comes in.
God is the real source of strength behind all of our spiritual battles. He protects us as a shield from our enemies. Even when we fall into the enemy’s trap, God rescues us. God is strong enough to overcome all of our battles. That should be enough to motivate us whenever we face any obstacle.
We have to rely on God’s strength and not our own. We have to trust that He will protect us at all times. Our true strength has to come from Him, making Him glorified and us humbled in His presence. He fights for us every day. Isn’t it comforting to know that the most powerful force in the universe is on our side? It should bring us enough joy and peace to get through any trial and tribulation.
This week, pray about how you can rely on God’s strength. Let Him be your fortress and shield. He will protect you at all costs. Let your faith be in Him, who is able to accomplish anything.
