Blessing in unity
Psalm 133:1 (ESV)
“Behold how good and pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!”
Let’s face the facts: our country is very divided. Our world is very divided. We have opposing views on just about everything. Certain political figures and various media outlets try to impose their own agenda. It seems like no one can agree on anything. However, where there is unity, there is peace and happiness.
It would be great if everyone in the world got along with each other. There will be no wars, no crime, and no hate. There would just be love, just like God originally intended. We would do no wrong to our fellow neighbor. But sin is still prevalent in our time today. With it, comes conflict.
Unity seems something too far off for anyone to attain. But what about among fellow believers? We all believe in the one true God and that His Son Jesus Christ died to pay the price for our sins and rose again on the third day. But even among believers there are quarrels and petty arguments. Romans 3:23 says, “We all fall short of the glory of God.” We are all sinners who need redemption.
Sometimes we see cars with the Jesus fish on the back of it cut you off on the road. Christians break the speed limit just like most people. You might have been rubbed the wrong way by a believer. Hypocrisy abounds in all of us. No one is immune to sinful actions.
The Bible asks all of us to set aside our differences and love on one another. We need to look past our selfish ideals and focus on how we can take care of our fellow brother and sister. With all the hate going on in the world, people look to Christians as a beacon of hope, a light shining on top of a hill. How can we be that hope if we are imperfect individuals?
The answer is Jesus. We can’t rely on ourselves to bring peace, but we can rely on the Prince of Peace. He is the Alpha and the Omega. No one stands above Him. If we put Jesus in the forefront of our lives, we can rest in Him. We can unify together through His truth. His love can conquer all. The only thing we need to do is believe in that love and unite as one with Him.
This week, pray about how you can maintain unity with those around you. Seek God and all His wisdom in order to find the right way to bring peace into your life.
