How do you know you love Jesus?

And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. ‘Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?’ And He said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

Matthew 22:37-38 (ESV)

Have you ever asked yourself, “How do I really know deep inside my heart that I love Jesus?” To find that answer, we need to turn to the Holy Scriptures where this answer may be revealed in an unexpected way.

You see, loving Jesus is not only shown through our prayers, singing a praise song, going to church on the sabbath, or giving money to a church or favorite charity. To love Jesus, it will take much more than all those religious acts.

As we read the Holy Scriptures, we will realize that to love Him truly, we have to love Him not only with all our heart, soul and mind, but also with all our strength. But there are other signs from you that can give you the confidence that your love for Jesus is sure and firm. Here are the outward signs that show your love for our Lord.

A person who loves Jesus will be led by the Holy Spirit to want to follow all His commands. They will love one another regardless of any differences, does not love money, does not love worldly things, loves God through honest actions, and is patient, kind, humble, truthful, righteous and faithful. All these things bound in perfect unity.

However, the largest and most important way you know your love for Jesus is true is how you are moved in your spirit by what He has done for you on the cross. By Jesus’ perfect obedience to God the Father, to be a sacrifice bearing all our sins past, present and future, we have been redeemed. By your acceptance of Him into your life, you can know that you share in eternity with all believers. Now that is true love.

This week, if you have not experienced that kind of “Jesus love” in your heart, don’t wait. Speak to a pastor in person. Let them know your desire to be saved. At any time, pray to the Lord in Jesus’ name to acknowledge you are a sinner. Ask forgiveness of your sins and ask Jesus to become your Lord and Savior of your life.
