When we are apart from God, we are lost.

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:13-14 (ESV)

Have you ever been lost?

Let me tell you about a time when I was lost. One time, I took a group of people to NYC to do a mission project. As we were finishing, we decided to experience THE Rockefeller center. We had an amazing time! As we headed back on the subway to go where we were staying, we got off at the wrong exit. We realized that we were in the wrong place only after we got off … and we were lost. We were over a half-hour away from where we were staying, in a bad area and a bad neighborhood. It was well past midnight when we were finally able to get a taxi and get back to the hotel. As we were driving, we were telling the driver what we were doing in NYC. At the end of the drive, I asked the driver how much we owed him. He looked at me and said, “it’s all paid for.” As you can imagine, I was puzzled and asked again how much I owed him. He said that it was all paid for by Christ.

When we are apart from God, we are lost. We are wondering around this world in a bad place. The Bible even describes us as being slaves to sin. We were firmly chained down to our sin. That is where this passage comes in. When we are saved by Christ, we are freed from our sin. We were lost but now we are found. It is like wandering around NYC having no idea where you are and Christ came and picked you up. This is made even more special when Christ gets us where we should be and then turns around and says: “it’s all been paid for.” Not only that but he says: “I paid the price.”

The Bible says that we are redeemed. That means that Christ has bought us back from sin and into life with the sacrifice on the Cross. He paid the price in full so that we no longer have to be in sin. He lived the life we couldn’t live and died the death we couldn’t die so that we could be free.

Have you ever had a time when you were lost and Christ saved you? How are you going to help others find their way with what Christ has given you? This week, reflect on how Christ has saved you and share the love of Christ with others.
