In the beginning

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:1 (ESV)

Everything has a beginning. For us, it all began when God created the heavens and the earth. This is how the Bible starts. God was there before life began for any of us. It was just him and him alone.

As we grow older, we become more aware of God’s creations around us. The animals, the trees, the mountains, the oceans, and the people. All of these things didn’t exist at one point. They had to come from somewhere.

God is the beginning and without him, none of us would exist. The earth wouldn’t exist and the universe wouldn’t exist. God communicates this to us through his Word. He knows how limited our minds and understanding are, but he also conveys the Bible’s language to us with significance and deep meaning.

God, on the other hand, has no limits. He created the universe, which is an unlimited amount of space for us to behold. The number of stars in the sky is too many to count. He created all the grains of sand on the beach that are beyond any measure of recording how many there are.

How amazing is it that we get to worship a God who created everything in the universe? The One who is before all things is the same One who came to the earth He created to die for our sins. He left his throne room of heaven to save us. We don’t deserve such grace, but our Lord who is so powerful is also so loving.

As we dwell on how astounding God is, let us also take into account how gracious he is. With all of his limitless power, He decided to save us from our sins so we don’t go to Hell for eternal suffering. He made the choice to bring us closer to him. All we have to do with our limited power is choose him and follow his commandments.

This week, meditate on the fact that God is so powerful and above us that he created the universe and everything in it. Also, meditate that the very same God who created us also died for us and rose again to save us. Pray about how you want to serve Him in the life He has given you.
