Receiving mercy and finding grace
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16
No matter how many times we ask for forgiveness, we mess up again. It’s an endless cycle of us committing a sin, asking God for forgiveness, and then committing another sin later on. We are reminded daily of how imperfect we truly are. However, we are also reminded daily how gracious and loving God is.
It’s easy to get discouraged with yourself over the amount of sins you have repeated, but God tells us in his word that he will love us no matter what. If we truly, genuinely tell God we’re sorry, he will show mercy. It is our job as followers of Christ to repent and change our actions with a heart that is changed by Jesus.
We will still be tempted every day, whether it’s through social media, friends or what we watch on television or the internet. It can feel like we are being held captive by sin with unbreakable chains. But through Jesus’ death and resurrection, he broke us free of those chains. In him, we find rest. We find peace. His resurrection has set us free from death if we choose to accept him as our Lord and Savior.
As stated in Hebrews, we are to come boldly to the throne of God, which offers salvation and restoration. We do this through prayer and reading his Word. We can have assurance that God will forgive us, because his loving nature is abundant in mercy. We have confidence not because of who we are, but because of what Christ has done for us. If we come in Jesus’ name, he will intercede for us.
This week, pray about the sins you have committed. Confess them to your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, knowing that he will embrace you with forgiveness and mercy. If you do not know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, pray that you will receive him in your heart, so you too can experience this kind of joy and love.
