Deliverance from fears

I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 34:4

Fear can paralyze us. It can control us. The loss of security is one of the most dreadful feelings a person can have. Not knowing what is going to happen next causes many of us to cast doubt. Fear can take away our joy and peace. Nevertheless, with God on our side, there is nothing to be afraid of.

In this Psalm, David calls out to the Lord to rescue him from his fears. We can relate, as all of us have something to be afraid of. It could be death, rejection, bankruptcy, losing a loved one or maybe even fear itself. However, when we cast our worries and anxieties to the Lord, he gives us the courage to face our fears with confidence.

God is the only one who can deliver us from fear. We can try to delay the inevitable by finding security in temporary pleasures or our friends and family members whom we can trust. Unfortunately, everything on this earth will pass away in a matter of time. The good news is that Jesus never passes away. He never leaves us or forsakes us. He is there for us no matter what we are going through.

God delivers us from our fears by renewing our minds through reading scripture and coming to Him in prayer. This growth causes the truth of His words to dwell in our hearts. That is what David did in this Psalm, and God delivered him from all his fears. God loves us more than we can know. He does not want us to be afraid. When we know the power and authority that we have in Jesus’ name, fear can be extinguished and eliminated from our lives.

Getting rid of the fear in our lives is no easy task. It takes determination and discipline. If we persevere, God will be with us every step of the way. Trusting in something other than yourself is difficult. We can rest in what Jesus did for us and how he overcame death to save us from our sin. We can move forward through difficult times in our lives with confidence. We don’t have to be afraid. The God who created the universe is always with us. He will deliver us from our fears.

This week, pray about what you are afraid of. Ask God to come into your heart to give you the peace that surpasses all understanding. Let his love comfort you during your times of doubt and anxiety.
